In the UK you can join and become a member of the British Horse Society (BHS) that provides its members with different membership benefits. Currently there is a personal liability and personal accident component to the British Horse Society Insurance policy that they provide as part of their gold level membership.
Whilst personal liability and accident cover is provided it does not comprise as a fully comprehensive insurance policy. For a policy that will provide health insurance you should consider getting horse insurance quotes from an accredited UK insurer. You can check prices and apply for a policy online, many horse insurance providers also provide an online discount further reducing the cost of getting a policy.
The society is not in itself an insurance company and only provides limited insurance for its gold members. Essentially their policy is designed to provide cover if you damage or injure a third party or their property whilst riding your horse or a horse you have been given permission to ride.
You are covered if you are normally a resident in the UK and covers accidental third party injury and liability. It is a policy specifically designed for when you are attending the BHS events and is not meant to be a replacement for a comprehensive horse insurance policy.
Cover is provided should accidental harm come to a third party or accidental damage to property or equipment owned by a third party. It is not meant to cover you if you should injure yourself or if your horse is injured. Bearing in mind that the insurance component is only part of the membership benefits provided by the society.
Whenever you are considering getting horse insurance you should always check that the policy covers you for the likely situations that you would expect. Different components can include injury to yourself or your horse, theft, vandalism or accidental damage to your equipment and cover for any vehicles used to transport your horse such as that provided by horse lorry insurance.
